March 3rd-28th, 2010
An exhibit of photographer Diane Laundy’s recent work, in which modern architecture is abstracted, re-imagined, and playfully re-assembled into quilt-like patterns.
“Architecture and quilting have much in common”, says Laundy. “There is an inherent sense of order and structure in both, that lends itself to the creation of pattern and rhythm. And both are utilitarian – created to provide shelter, warmth, and comfort.” Using this novel insight as a starting point, she has created a series of images that bring the eye of the photographer and the design sensibility of the quilter to the most unyielding of subjects – the modern skyscraper.
