Since 2021 Angela has been working on a long-term project about the intersection of culture and climate on Prince Edward Island. The photos of this project bear witness to the catastrophic effects of climate change on future generations of Islanders as well as their resilience and desire to seek adaptations. PEI is known for its tourism, fishing, and potato farming industries. The cultural traditions of Islanders, from the original Mi’kmaq to Celtic and Acadian settlers and recent newcomers, are at stake and the question persists: What kind of life remains for Islanders in years to come?
Images from this project were exhibited at Eptek Art & Culture Centre in Summerside, PEI, in March 2024 and a selection of her Fiona aftermath photos can be found in Fiona: Prince Edward Island Accounts of Canada's Biggest Storm, which was awarded a 2024 PEI Museum Heritage Award.
Angela is currently one of 18 photographers sharing work in Vision(ary), the Griffin Museum of Photography’s 5th Annual juried summer public art exhibition dedicated to the art of visual storytelling from June 7 to September 27, 2024 in Winchester, Massachusetts. Her documentary photos of the founder of New England's first all-female mariachi band, Veronica Robles, who also runs a Latino cultural center in East Boston, are part of Winchester Waterfield Summer Arts Festival.
Angela has also spent considerable time photographing in Cuba, including Pope Francis’ visit to the island, and she covered the election of former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. As an English/Spanish interpreter and translator, she sees her language access work as complementary to her journalism work.
Angela has taught photography to teens at the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston and visual journalism to undergraduates at Boston University's College of Communication and Endicott College. She mentors aspiring photographers and has been invited to speak at a variety of universities, community organizations, and at Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC) in Havana.
Angela is vice president of the Boston Press Photographers Association and the New England chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers, and a board member of the Society of Environmental Journalists. She is also a member of the Boston Women's Photo League, NPPA, The Canadian Association of Journalists, News Photographers Association of Canada, and CARFAC Maritimes.
