Philosophy
Photography is an attempt at putting my best self into the final image. I use my camera to express what words fail to convey. I choose to dedicate myself to no posing or photoshop in my work in order to create a dialogue of undisturbed reality. I feel most kinship with the genre of “street photography,” but I enjoy all the subjects that life brings to my lens. The only transformation in the image is the necessary editing of tones in the photograph, and the four corners I put around the world.
Style
I make images when I feel emotionally connected with the world around me. Almost invariably this comes after I’ve gained the trust of the subjects I’m photographing. Only with an emotional connection am I able to create a better human experience with my camera.
Technique
I prefer to use a wide angle lens with everything in focus. Everything else to me is superfluous. I enjoy the 8” x 12” size because of the way they inspire the reader to come close to the image. To bring a part of oneself as close to the printed image as possible.
Background
I graduated from the 15 month photography program at da Vinci College in Halifax. Since graduation I’ve continued to pursue personal projects on Newfoundland, my friends and family, and the human experience through life on the street.
